Louisa (pseudonym) sounds like a nine-year-old girl.
But his words seem to be of a wiser man than his age. He has had to write letters to lawmakers appealing for the release of himself and his mother, Ariana (pseudonym), from the US detention center.
On Feb 2nd, he had spent 531 days in US government custody. She is trying to avoid deportation from the United States after a failed asylum application.
According to three legal aid organizations operating in the country, Louisa is the immigrant girl who has spent the most time in government custody.
He spent most of his time at the South Texas Family Disaster Center in Delhi, Texas. "All my friends are gone," she says over the phone. My only friend and I have children here. '
Under current law, immigrant children in the United States cannot be detained by immigration authorities for more than 20 days.
However, Louisa and four other children (ranging in age from three to 16) have spent more than 500 days here with their mother.
'No one can take mother's place'
Louisa could have left the detention center and lived in the United States with another relative. But he and his mother decided to stay together while fighting their case in US courts.
